Friends and strangers alike came forth to announce their own addiction. I have confessed this before in a column both brave and true. While everyone else is playing games, Bill Gates is taking over the world. Maybe he introduced games to give him a leg up - to allow him to stay ahead. Maybe he is chuckling at how he has ruined the lives of millions, maybe billions, of perfectly nice people. This is his way of toying with people who have weaknesses, people who are less disciplined than he, people whose idea of fun is not answering hours and hours of e-mail. This is Gates's joke on the rest of the world - on ordinary people. I prefer to think I know the answer: It has to do with Bill Gates. But the person at Microsoft who had the info never called, and that was just as well with me. I talked to someone who said I should talk to someone else who said she would find out who I should talk to. I called Microsoft to ask why it includes games in its Windows package. Now here is something for the government to stop. Look at the vast number of addicts, of people playing solitaire or minesweeper or some other game until they are red in the eye and their arm has gone wooden from moving the mouse for hours and hours. Look at the hours wasted, the marriages and relationships ruined. I wonder why the government has hauled it into court for including an Internet browser in its Windows package when it should be investigating why it included games. Me, I couldn't wait to go home and put a black queen on a red king. A famous journalist admitted often playing into the wee hours of the night, and his wife, an educator, owned up to doing something similar. The concert musician acknowledged a near addiction - and so did her husband, the investment manager. The college president confessed to playing them a lot. Undoing the move will also move the cards back.We were sitting around the other night, eight of us, when somehow the subject of computer games came up. If you decide to move the draggedĬard(s) somewhere else, just drag them there and the other cards will go back to where they Move, hold the dragged card(s) at the destination for a second. The effect is the same as clicking each card. If youĬancel the drag or undo the move, all the cards will go back to where they were.ĭragging a card or cards to the middle of a stack will attempt to move all the cards above theĭestination out of the way. The effect will be the same as clicking each card. You can use super moves to make your game playing more efficient.Ĭlicking or dragging a card that isn't immediately accessible will attempt to move all the cardsĪbove it in its stack until the move is valid. So when one such column is built successfully, it is a general rule to leave this column alone, unless it covers a face-down card. When no more moves are possible, the three leftover cards are dealt onto the first three columns and put into play.Īs earlier mentioned, the object of the game is to build four columns of suit sequences from king down to ace. Furthermore, once a face-down card is exposed, it is turned face up. Also, nothing can be placed on an ace and gaps on the tableau can only be taken by kings or sequences with Kings as their bottom cards. However, once a card from the bottom or middle of a column is moved, all cards on top of it are moved as well as one unit. That means that any card can be placed on top of a card that is a rank higher. The three leftover cards are set aside for later.Ĭards in the tableau are built down by suit and every face up card is available for play, no matter where in the column it is. The cards in the remaining three columns are all faced up. The first four columns each have three face-down cards with four face-up cards placed over them. The game starts with 49 cards dealt into seven columns of seven cards each on the tableau. The object of this game is to form four columns of suit sequence cards from king down to ace. Although somewhat related to Spider, the method of game play is akin to Yukon. Scorpion is a solitaire card game using a deck of 52 playing cards.
